Track Access Platform for High-Speed Railway Lines
vortex is a road-rail vehicle access platform developed specifically for high-speed railway lines and is based on the proven STRAIL level crossing panels made of recycled rubber. It provides maintenance and emergency vehicles with access to the track and is designed to withstand the high aerodynamic loads generated by trains passing at speeds of up to 300 km/h. The system’s fatigue resistance has been tested under pressure and suction forces and successfully validated for train speeds of up to 300 km/h.
Securely Anchored Against High Pressure and Suction Forces
At high train speeds, strong alternating pressure and suction forces act on the panels in the track area. vortex prevents the outer panels from lifting by means of a specially developed mechanical fastening system. A bolted steel plate engages positively with a specially adapted V kerbstone, securely fixing the rubber panel in place. Additional longitudinal restraint and stability are provided by the proven STRAIL lock-tight tie rod system and rail foot clamps.

After 45 years of closure, Nordhorn was reconnected to passenger transport. Access for Maintenance and Emergency Services on High-Speed Railway Lines
Conventional level crossings are largely avoided on high-speed railway lines. Nevertheless, designated access points must remain available for maintenance work and emergency response, for example before and after tunnels or at defined intervals along the line. Until now, heavy precast concrete elements have been among the few solutions proven suitable for these demanding conditions. However, their weight and construction can make rapid access to the track structure significantly more difficult. vortex provides a robust road-rail vehicle access platform while keeping the track structure readily accessible for the inspection and maintenance work required. The system therefore combines the specific safety requirements of high-speed railway lines with the practical demands of maintenance and emergency response.
Fast Installation and Removal for Track Work
Especially on high-speed railway lines, available track possessions are a key factor in maintenance planning. vortex therefore relies largely on proven STRAIL components and requires no special additional tools for installation. The design enables fast installation and removal, keeping the rails and track structure readily accessible for essential inspection and maintenance work. For contractors, this also reduces the installation effort, as many of the system’s key components and installation principles are already familiar from other STRAIL solutions.
