High-Performance Level Crossing System for Heavy-Duty and Industrial Traffic
apex is based on STRAIL level crossing panels and features a specially structured polymer surface (duragrip) developed for applications subject to particularly high mechanical loads. Typical applications include port and industrial facilities, as well as level crossings with tight curves or turning loops, where heavy vehicles generate high torsional and shear forces. The new level crossing system combines high structural load-bearing capacity with long-lasting grip, making it particularly suitable for heavily trafficked level crossings.
High Grip Even Under Continuous Loading
The specially developed duragrip polymer surface increases the structural stiffness of the level crossing panel while providing a highly slip-resistant driving surface. With an SRT value of more than 80, apex provides a high level of slip resistance that remains consistently high even after more than 3.5 million vehicle passes. The system is therefore designed for intensive traffic loads in applications where steering and turning heavy vehicles exert particularly high forces on the panels.

STRAIL B kerbstone
Level crossing with inno and B kerbstone installed in just three hours
The increasingly tight track possession times in modern track construction require solutions that are not only robust, but above all quick to install. For this project, the choice fell on the efficient combination of the inno system, which is independent of sleeper spacing, and the B kerbstone, which requires no foundation. It took a team of four just three hours to install the entire 5.4-meter-long level crossing. Thanks to the B kerbstone’s foundation-free design, the track could be reopened to traffic immediately after installation.

The combination of increased stiffness and long-lasting grip supports reliable performance even under intensive heavy-duty traffic.
Easy to Maintain, Durable in Winter Conditions and Available in Different Colours
The optimised surface texture of apex makes it more difficult for dirt and residue to adhere, helping to simplify cleaning of the level crossing. The duragrip polymer surface also offers advantages during winter maintenance: when snowploughs are used, it is resistant to abrasion and does not tend to tear. The proven handling of the level crossing panels is retained. For visual or operational requirements, apex can also be produced in a single colour in a range of standard RAL colours.
