Project description
At the Port of Antwerp, one of Europe’s largest cargo hubs, massive volumes of freight are moved every day. The enormous port cranes used for loading operations require a robust rail system integrated directly into the quay. Depending on the crane size, the rails are set into concrete recesses, which in some areas are as deep as 55 centimeters.
While these deep recesses provide the cranes with the necessary freedom of movement, they create a significant obstacle for other road users—ranging from logistics vehicles to pedestrians. They limit accessibility, increase the risk of accidents, and potentially disrupt logistics operations.
KRAIBURG STRAIL provided the perfect solution with its specially designed profil system:
- The durable elastomer elements were precisely tailored to fit the large dimensions of the 55 cm deep concrete recesses.
- The profil fillers completely close the gap in the quay, creating a smooth, safe surface for vehicles to cross.
- At the same time, the modular design ensures continuous access to the rail for maintenance and technical inspections.
By implementing the STRAIL profil system, the entire handling area at the Port of Antwerp has been optimally improved. Now, all vehicles and pedestrians can safely and easily cross the crane rails, resulting in enhanced occupational safety and streamlined internal logistics. The profil fillers once again demonstrate their efficiency and durability under the extreme loads of global port operations.
