AT A GLANCE

Stadtwerke München renewed the superstructure of tram line 25 after 30 years. In the course of this refurbishment, a green track was used on 1,880 metres of the line coming from the south just before the Harlaching Clinic stop until the end of the project south of the Authariplatz stop.

In the search for suitable green track profiles, Stadtwerke opted for the STRAILastic_R system, as it fully fulfils the requirements such as the demarcation between the vignole rails and the turf surface as well as the required stray current insulation of the track. Tests were carried out in advance by the municipal utilities. STRAILastic_R delivered very good results in these tests.

Following the necessary tamping work after the track renovation, the green track profiles were installed in August 2023 by the construction company Rhomberg Bahntechnik GmbH under the project management of Lukas Schober. ‘The installation of the STRAILastic_R profiles went extremely quickly, as it only takes a few hammer blows to get them into position. The rubber profiles can also be easily cut to size if adjustments are required, for example before and after levelcrossings,’ said Schober.

Following the positioning of the green track profiles, a plant fleece was applied and the track was covered with a layer of hummus and grass seed. ‘As the work went so quickly and smoothly, we were able to finish the construction site a few days earlier than planned,’ said Schober.

The STRAILastic_R profiles are laid out along the track in a first step.

If adjustments to the profiles are necessary, for example in front of level crossings, the profiles can be easily cut to size.

The STRAILastic_R profiles can be positioned with just a few taps of the hammer

Completely installed green track profiles.

After the profiles have been attached, a plant fleece is applied.

Finally, the track is filled with hummus and the grass seed is distributed.
